[edit] Removal of POV links

While it is true that minorities may have faced discrimination in some parts of Bangladesh, adding a host of links about "Ethnic cleansing" in Bangladesh is POV. The article is about "Hinduism in Bangladesh", so adding these links, most of which seem to be taken from Right wing websites or News articles, do not serve any purpose. These are not credible, and are unsubstantiated. I am interested in expanding the article, by adding sections on the History part and the different dynasties, and the religious sites, and the status of hindus in BD. However, adding links just for anti-Bangladesh/Islam rant would not help the article be NPOV. Thanks. --Ragib 08:12, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sources can be POV as long as the are reliable. Indian Express satisfies WP:Reliable Sources. HAF is registered as a non-partisan org by US government and is covered by US tax laws as such.Hkelkar 01:23, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
and yes it was ethnic cleansing only. Hindus were driven out of B'desh in the lakhs. What do you call that? Dance party?Hkelkar 01:25, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Dude Hkelkar tone it down man, don't hate on Ragib. Its not like he is the B'deshi gov't, he's merely a shishya like you and me. But your subject matter is true. Bangladeshi's in power, and Banglabhai Islamic terrorists hate Hindus. Even Tagore wouldn't feel welcome there anymore I'm afraidBakaman Bakatalk 02:31, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

My best friend is a Bangladeshi Hindu from Chittagong. He hates Bangladesh. His family hates Bangladesh. His father was the topper in his Medical University, yet he found it difficult to get a job. His mother had to live like a Muslim during the '71 war out of fear that Muslims would attack her family. Their land was forcefully taken away from them by local Muslim thugs. No one helped them, not even the law enforcers. Persecution became so widespread, my friend's grandparents ran away to India. I asked my friend, do you want to go back to Bangladesh? He replied "No, I don't feel safe there." If Hindus feel like this there, it shows that the government really is trying to marginalize Hindus

I feel sorry for your friend, but several of my best friends are also Bangladeshi hindus, and I've been to their homes, their puja celebrations, and they have been to mine likewise. My friends do not hate Bangladesh. It all depends on the situation, the context. My friend in my engineering school got equal opportunities and equal privileges as me. So, you can't really generalize on this, that all Hindu Bangladeshis hate Bangladesh. Thanks. --Ragib 18:09, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

I understand your point, Mr.Ragib and apologize for the generalization made earlier. However, you must accept that the Hindu minority does not enjoy the same freedoms as that enjoyed by the majority of the country. The Ramna Kali Mandir grounds that were demolished in '71 by Pakistanis still have not been returned to the Hindu community despite all requests. Stringent police protection is required during Pujo time out of fear of vandalism. i.e. Bangladesh may not neccessarily be the ideal place for Hindus

Aditya

Aditya, As someone from Bangladesh, i have to say you are mistaken. It entirely depends on the area where Hindus are residing. For some rural areas and villages, its a problem for the Hindus. For urban areas like Tatibazar, Tikatoli etc. in Dhaka city, the majority of the residents are still Hindus. In these areas Puja are celebrated at large scales without any problems. I was born, raised in these areas and most of my friends, neighbours were Hindus and for most cases there were no hindu-muslim discrimination. Also, some business like sweet stores/factories, Gold/Jewellery factories etc. are still being dominated by Hindus. - Alif. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.109.24.246 (talk) 22:45, 30 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Facts

It is funny whenever it involves the Hindus of Bangladesh, certain Bangladeshi wikipedians suddently gets "hyped-up" about fact tags. People seem to ignore that in other articles concerning Bangladesh. It shows how the Hindus in Bangladesh are treated currently and in the past. Taking the advantage of pro-rights absence, they were even very succesful in purging all the articles concerning Bangabhumi other than the main article. Very well. Do whatever you wish. I would see if I could find any references. Thank you. Have a nice day. :) Hikingdom 15:01, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Numbers

The most recent census data I have is from 1991, which gives 11,179,000 (10.5%) Hindus out of a population of 106,315,000. Also see [1]--Vikramsingh 05:28, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Axxn 12:48, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

In the very first line it states Census 2006!!!!! Very funny..... The last census was on 2001 and the next one is on 2011. From where you got the 11% figure, when it is 10.5% in 1991 and 8.1% in 2001? A rise of 2.9% in just 60 months?

[edit] Cleaning this article

I am going to be deleting nonsense figures and things that are without sources. There was no Bangladesh in the 1940s, how is it that figures from that time falls into "Hinduism in Bangladesh"? That was India at the time. Further, there is no concrete sources for much of the content here. Until solid sources are provided, all that has to go. MinaretDk 04:27, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

we seem to be having the same problem with the history of pakistan.--D-Boy 00:07, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

WHy are figures from 1941, 1951 in the table. This is Hinduism in Bangladesh, Not Hinduism in Pakistan. Bangladesh was liberated in 1971 ( anything that was before DOESNOT COUNT into Bangladesh). Pls, delete the figures. thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.109.24.246 (talk) 22:53, 30 January 2007 (UTC).
I have to say someone needs to do cleanup of this article, This article is "Hinduism in Bangladesh", not Hinduism in East Pakistan, anything that was before 1971 DOESNOT COUNT. Please delete those nonsense figures. And during Liberation, it wasn't just the Hindus who were massacred in 71', there were thousands of Bangladeshi muslims raped, abused, brutally murdered by the Pakistani bahini. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Itsalif (talkcontribs) 22:59, 30 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] from wp:bangladesh

I edited the following text from 'Political situation in Bangladesh' "Even after the rapid decline of the Hindu popualation of what is now Bangladesh, from 28% of the population in 1947,"

Please, Note Bangladesh got its independence on 1971, HOW can there be a census on 1947 for Bangladesh. That figure of 28% is a collective figure of East Pakistan(modern-day Bangladesh) and West Pakistan(modern-day Pakistan). SO, it DOESNOT count as only Bangladesh figure. Any figure before 1971 was collective figure of East and West Pakistan.

[edit] 2001 census figures out.

According to [9] there are 11,379,000 Hindus in Bangladesh as of 2001 census accounting for 9.2% of the population.---- Axxn
