Lynn Margulis a University of Massachusetts Amherst biológus professzora. 1938-ban született az Amerikai Egyesült Államokban.
Valószínűleg ő járult legtöbbel hozzá az endoszimbiózis elmélet kialakulásához, többek között különálló mikroorganizmusként határozta meg a mitokondrium ősét, mely integrálódott az ősi eukarióta sejtbe.
A James Lovelock-féle Gaia-elmélet egyik fő támogatója
Elvált. Volt férjétől (Carl Sagan) egy gyermeke született (Dorion Sagan).
