I Stand Alone was released in 1987 by Agnetha Fältskog. This was the third and last of her 1980s solo albums in English and the last major studio release until her comeback in 2004 with My Colouring Book.
The album was produced by Peter Cetera, the former singer and bass guitar player for American rock band Chicago, and he duetted with Fältskog on "I Wasn't the One (Who Said Goodbye)" (#93 Pop and #19 Adult Contemporary in the U.S.). The co-producer was Bruce Gaitsch, whom Fältskog was in a relationship with at the time.
The musical style of the album was very different to the European sounds of her previous two 1980s solo efforts and reflected the West Coast American influences of the producers.
For the cover of the album and promotional interviews, Fältskog appeared with a "new" spiky blonde hair look.
Fältskog made a very rare trip on an airplane to Los Angeles to record the album. After it was completed, she never flew again due to her much-publicized fear of flying. She did, however, admit that the flight was worth it.
