International Association of Torch Clubs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The International Association of Torch Clubs is an international organization of local clubs in which respected persons practicing recognized professions enjoy the cultural interchange of knowledge. The first Torch Club was organized in 1924. Originally, membership was restricted to "members of the learned professions". With the emergence of many new professions, the definition of eligibility has been widened to include those "members from other disciplines pursued by a person in a recognized professional manner". However, the local club has the right to set the general boundaries.
Local TORCH Clubs operate in 75 locations in the United States and Canada. Each has a monthly dinner meeting, which is highlighted by the presentation of a paper by a member or guest on a topic of concern to modern society. Following the presentation, the members discuss the subject.
