Interstate 787 (abbreviated I-787) is a 9.17 mile (15.00 km) Interstate Highway spur in New York. Its southern end is at the Exit 23 toll plaza of the New York State Thruway (Interstate 87); its northern end is at its underpass with NY 7 in Green Island where it continues as NY 787 to the city of Cohoes.[citation needed]
I-787 is the main highway for those traveling into and out of downtown Albany. As I-87 does not have a direct exit in the city of Albany, I-787 serves as the most direct route between Albany and points south on I-87.
At Exit 5 (Mile 3), I-787 connects to Interstate 90, which runs through north Albany to reconnect with the NYS Thruway at Exit 24 and the Adirondack Northway section of I-87 to the west, and to the southeast through Rensselaer County to connect with the Berkshire Spur segment of the NYS Thruway.
At Exit 9 (Mile 9), I-787 connects to NY 7, which connects east to Troy via the Collar City Bridge, and west back to I-87 and points north.
Southbound, traffic uses exit 1 to reach I-87 and the Thruway. I-787 continues as a spur to 9W at Southern Boulevard.
