Ipswich Buses

Ipswich Buses is a bus company that operates in Ipswich, Suffolk, UK. It has been operating bus services in the town for 103 years. It's depot is situated in Constantine Road, near Ipswich Town's football ground. The company doesn't directly compete with First Eastern Counties which has a garage on Foundation Street.

Rural services, such as the 116, are subsidised/supported by Suffolk County Council, and some are operated under the "Suffolk Bus" brand for which buses 161 and 197 wear a special blue livery. The three Park & Ride services in the town are also supported by SCC. Buses 55-57/84-88/170-173 (and also 53/187) wear a purple livery for this role. Buses 70-75 have route branding for route 13.

Ipswich Buses have their main hub at Tower Ramparts Bus Station. Routes 61 and 62 are the only routes that are operated by First and terminate at Tower Ramparts.
[edit] Breaking News regarding Ipswich Buses' future
This news is taken from 31/1/07's edition of the Evening Star, Ipswich's local newspaper.
Bus services across Ipswich could face the axe as the borough prepares for a near £1million raid on their own company's profits.
The routes that may be reduced/axed (Spring 2008 at the earliest):
- Routes 5, 7, 11 and 15 will be reduced from four an hour to three an hour during the day. Reduced from two an hour to one an hour during the evenings and on Sundays,
- Route 2 reduced from two an hour to one during the day.
- Route 12 reduced from three an hour to two during the day, from two an hour to one during the evening and on Sundays.
- Route 16 reduced from three buses an hour to two.
- Routes 14, 19, 22 cut altogether.
Ipswich council has owned the company since it was formed. In that time it has never taken a profit out of the company - preferring to see any earnings reinvested in new buses and new services. Ipswich Buses will be unable to buy any new vehicles for 4 years and there could also be job losses.
