Péter Esterházy

Péter Esterházy (14 aprile 1950, Budapest - ) è un noto scrittore moderno. È anche l'ultimo discendente di una delle più importanti famiglie del suo paese.
Nel 1974 si laureò in matematica all'università di ELTE; nello stesso anno pubblicò su un giornale la sua prima opera. Nei quattro anni successivi fu ricercatore all'interno dell'università, dopo i quali divenne.
Il suo romanzo più rappresentativo è Harmonia Caelestis (Feltrinelli 2000). ---> which chronicles his forefathers' epic rise during the Austro-Hungarian empire – when Haydn composed music at the family palace – to its dispossession under communism.
His next (and, as of 2005, latest) novel, Revised Edition (Javított kiadás, 2002), which appeared as an "appendix" to the former work, was born from the shock when he learnt that his father was an informer for the secret police of the Communist era. The book deals with the research work as a diary, his father's unfolding activity, and the very process of his facing and digesting the facts. <---
Le sue opere sono state pubblicate in più di 20 lingue. Ha vinto premi in Francia, Austria, Germania, Slovenia e Norvegia; nel suo paese, tra i numerosi riconoscimenti conferitigli, si segnala nel 1996 il prestigioso Kossuth Prize.
