Jaime Jackson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jaime Jackson began his career as a farrier.
From 1982 until 1986, he studied feral horses in their natural environment (western US). He noted that they were even longer lived than domestic horses[citation needed] and suffered from none of the hoof maladies that plague domestic horses, notably navicular syndrome and laminitis. After his experiences with the wild horses, he began experimenting on the hooves of domestic horses to find an effective way to trim their feet and allow them to remain barefoot. In 1990 he ended his career as a traditional farrier, stopped shoeing clients' horses and instead became an advocate for a wild-horse trim. He soon concluded that even horses with severe hoof conditions deemed incurable by vets and farriers could be restored to health through natural horse care (naturalization of the diet and boarding situation) and barefoot trimming.
In 1992 he published his first book, The Natural Horse. Nevertheless, the results were appreciated mainly by horse owners, much more than by vets or farriers. In 1999 he wrote his most famous book, named HOG in barefoot horse community, Horse Owners Guide to Natural Hoof Care. In 2000's, he created the American Association of Natural Hoof Care Practitioners (AANHCP), devoted to training and certification of a new professional of horse care: the Natural hoof care practitioner.
Within a few years, a large, world-wide barefoot movement formed, merging with other European experiences about the benefits from barefootedness after the studies of Dr. Hiltrud Strasser.
