James Isaac "Jimmy" Neutron (voiced by Debi Derryberry) is a fictional character in the TV series The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and the movie Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. He is the main and the title character of both the movie and the TV series. His name is a spoof of the scientist Isaac Newton's name, and is also based on James Chadwick who was nicknamed "Jimmy Neutron" for his discovery of the neutron. He is a ten-year-old genius inventor but his inventions seem to cause more destruction than anything and it is usually up to him to stop them. He lives in fictional Retroville, Texas, with his robotic dog, Goddard (named after Robert H. Goddard, a pioneer in modern rocketry), his father, a bumbling, pie-addicted, car salesman, duck-lover Hugh and his mother, a neat freak Judy Neutron.
Jimmy's full name is James Isaac Neutron, but only his mother and his professor at college has used his full name -- usually after his latest invention leads to disaster. His father calls him "Jimbo" and Cindy Vortex, an extraordinarily intelligent girl from Jimmy's class, often refers to him as Nerdtron, Spewtron, King Cranium, and other such names. In The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour, Cosmo called him Fudge-head. Jimmy's best friends are Carl Wheezer and Sheen Estevez.

[edit] Background
Jimmy Neutron sports a disproportionately large head which he needs to house his large brain and its exceedingly high I.Q. This brain, a source of constant comment, allows him to invent devices that accomplish even the impossible. They rarely function as intended, however, and most often embroil his friends or the entire town in some crisis. In the moment of crisis, he will urge his brain on, saying, "Think, think, think!" whereupon viewers enter Jimmy's brain to observe its inner workings as well as to relive a scene from the early part of the episode. Jimmy will then shout, "Brain Blast!" and arrive at the solution for deliverance from whatever fine kettle of fish into which his inventive genius had landed him, his friends, or his town.
Jimmy's inventions include his robotic dog, Goddard (the only normal being in the show,) a cheese ray that can transform anything into cheese, a time machine, and nanobots. He has several gum and candy based inventions, which include "neutronic air gum" that allows humans to breathe underwater, gum that allows one to memorize books, and candy that uses all the flavors. After eating such candy, humans develop a physiological need (addiction) for it.
Jimmy has several inventions to help him with transportation, the most frequently employed being his flying rocket and his hovercar. He also has a neutronic game pyramid which allows players to be in their favorite video game. He creates these inventions in an extensive lab located under his clubhouse and which remains accessible to him alone by means of hair DNA scan.
[edit] Relationships with other characters
Carl Wheezer and Sheen Estevez are Jimmy's two best and ever-present friends, accompany Jimmy on nearly all of his adventures. Obsessed with llamas and Ultralord, respectively, they need Jimmy and his inventions to quicken their otherwise dull and pathetic lives. Normally, they play the foils to Jimmy's genius and sometimes solve the episode's crisis with some innocent or inane observation. Other times, they merely cause the trouble.
Jimmy's inter-dimensional friends include Timmy Turner, Danny Phantom, and SpongeBob SquarePants. Jimmy and Timmy met in The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour. In the The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour 2, they hated each other due to rivalry over their inexpilcable fascination/affection with/for Cindy Vortex. Eventually, they become friends in The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour 3 and have remained so ever since. Jimmy and Timmy met Danny and SpongeBob in Nicktoons Unite!.
Cindy Vortex is Jimmy's long time intellectual denigrator and secret crush. The two enjoy a unique love-hate relationship which originated prior to the beginning of the movie and the series. Cindy was the smartest kid in Retroville until Jimmy arrived. Cindy resents Jimmy's usurpation of her number one spot. This resentment drives her to prove the she can be just as smart if not smarter than Jimmy. She releases this resentment by mercilessly teasing him and his friends, calling him names such as "Nerdtron", "Spewtron", "King Cranium", etc., making fun of him and his friends, pulling pranks on them, and pointing out Jimmy's many and manifest mistakes and shortcomings.
Throughout the course of the series, viewers observe subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) indications that the two do indeed like each other. Inexplicably, these two harbor an affection for each other despite Cindy's intense competition with Jimmy and Jimmy's frustration with Cindy's conventional instincts and intellect. During seasons two and most notably season three, Cindy comes to terms with her feelings for Jimmy and picks on him and his friends a lot less. She makes several attempts to get his attention. They finally kiss in the season three episode, "Lady Sings The News".
Betty Quinlan is Jimmy's first crush on the show. She is popular and very kind. Jimmy had fallen head over heels for her and had referred to her as a "woman". Betty would flirt with him much to Cindy's jealousy and annoyance. In Vanishing Act Betty got annoyed with Cindy's jealousy, and told her Jimmy was "all hers." Betty Quinlan is sometimes referred to as a Mary Sue.
April the Gorlock has had one appearance on the show in the episode "Win, Lose, or Kaboom." In fear of her planet's safety, she had preformed a seal of trust with Jimmy which resembled a kiss. Cindy had observed this and was insanely jealous. Jimmy's hormones had kicked in after that, and he had hoped for another kiss from her when the adventure was over. He and April would send messages via space rock after that.
[edit] Enemies
Jimmy encounters some diabolical villains in his show. These include the Yolkians, a race of egg-chicken related aliens, Professor Finbarr Calamitous, an evil genius who can never finish anything, and the rich young snob Eustace Strytch, among others. He also has an evil clone which is stuck in another dimension. The majority of the show's villains exhibit a comical element or have bizarre personality traits.
[edit] Hero Idol
Although he is not an Ultralord fan, like Sheen, Jimmy idolizes has his own action-hero, Jet Fusion, a super-spy who stars in many movies shown in the Retroville Theater. Fusion's movie titles satirize James Bond titles which include "Die Again Tomorrow Forever",Die Another Day, Never Say Never Again, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Diamonds are Forever ).
[edit] Super Powers
In the episode N-Men, Jimmy, Cindy, Carl, Libby, and Sheen acquire super powers when their spaceship passes through the Van Patten Radiation Belt. They all got a superpower based on their action at the time. Cindy got super human strenght and was called a special girl based on the power of Supergirl. Carl got a super sonic burp and called Burp Boy. Libby had the power to go invisible and called herself Invisible Sister based on Invisible Woman. Sheen could vibrate at a very fast rate, or in other words he ran very fast and he was called Vibrating Lad based on Flash. Jimmy lacked a superhero name when he got his powers, but he did acquire orange skin, green hair, fruit body odor, and a shape-shifting talent which turns him into a huge, strong monster when he gets angry. This latter talent combines The Hulk and the Thing. His original outfit resembles The Green Lantern's costume.
[edit] Birthday
It is feasible that Jimmy's birthday is March 14 which is also (Albert Einstein's birthday. Pi Day[citation needed]), but in the 2001 movie, the month tag on Goddard's license plate expired on October 23, possibly meaning that he was born on or around that date.
Another possible date for his birthday is in late spring or early summer. In one episode, he hypnotized his parents into believing his birthday was actually a few months earlier in order to get presents. His punishment was to scrub the school's floors . Some people thought it was during summer school, but this mistaken understanding results from Sheen's quip that summer school is worse like him.
[edit] Trivia
- One of Jimmy's inventions, the Time Booth, is a reference to the TARDIS, the main vehicle in the long-running series Doctor Who.
- Another one of Jimmy's inventions, seen in Win, Lose and Kaboom, may be a reference to the Stargate from the film and tv sci-fi series Stargate.
- The robot Jimmy creates in Birth of A Salesman is named the Willy Loman 3000, the names of the robot and the episode itself are references to Death of a Salesman.
- Jimmy's computer is named Vox, which is the Latin word for voice.

- Jimmy's house address number is 3210. This refers to 3-2-1-0-Liftoff!! in many episodes.
- It's quite possible Jimmy got his intelligence from his mother, because she seems to have a more clear understanding of his inventions. Also in the episode See Jimmy Run, Judy Neutron was arguing about the dangers of Jimmy's combustion cycle experiment (though this left both Jimmy and his father astonished).
- In Lights! Camera! Danger! Jimmy asks Goddard to search for Quentin Smithee and a page comes up that is almost exactly like IMDB.com (Internet Movie Database).
- Jimmy Neutron and Timmy Turner have met each other in The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour having first started a very weak acquaintanceship, then a strong rivalry, and finally forming a fairly stable friendship.
- Jimmy's school, Lindbergh Elementry, could possibly be named after the famous aviator, Charles Lindbergh
- Jimmy originally was seen in a striped white and red shirt and blue pants in several sneek peaks.
- Jimmy Neutron is a parody of the inventor Sir Isaac Newton(who acts like Jimmy).
- Jimmy's hair is influenced by Jim Carrey in Ace_Ventura:_Pet_Detective
