[edit] Biography
Jody Kim Quaranta (née Rossman) was born on November 3, 1975 in Ghent, New York to Heather and Warren Rossman. Both parents are retired high school teachers. Her mother taught English and father taught Economics, World History and Participatory Government. Jody is the middle of three daughters. Her younger sister, Julie, is a school teacher in Upstate New York, and her older sister, Nicole, runs her own window treatment business called Distinctive Designs by Nicole in New Jersey. From the beginning, their parents exposed Jody and her sisters to books, theater and travel. Jody began reading at the age of two and was always ready to debate and argue her point. At the prompting of her parents, she skipped Kindergarten and went straight to first grade at the age of four. From then on, she was always several years younger than her peers. Older sister, Nicole, graduated high school early at the age of 16 and went off to college at Cornell University. Jody was still four at the time, so they didn’t get to know each other well until they were adults, when Jody moved nearby in New Jersey right after college. Jody and younger sister, Julie, although closer now, had traditional sibling spats while growing up together.
Through high school, Jody rode horses, played sports, took voice and piano lessons, traveled and acted in school plays. Always exposing them to cultural activities, they went to the theater often and hosted numerous foreign exchange students. One student from Japan, stayed with them for an entire year. Jody was fortunate enough to be able to travel to some of their countries as well. During high school she took trips to the Soviet Union and to France and Spain. She graduated at the top of her class in 1992 at the age of 16 and won a scholarship for foreign languages to Wells College in Aurora, New York.
At the time Jody attended, Wells College was an all women’s college and there Jody made some of the best friends of her life. Involved in the student body government as well as an a capella group called "Henry's VIII" (Henry Wells, founder of American Express and Wells Fargo, also founded the college) and was the goalie all four years for her college field hockey team. Jody spent a summer in a language immersion program at Middlebury College in Vermont and then spent a semester of her junior year of college abroad in Sevilla, Spain. She graduated magna cum laude with a major in Spanish and a minor in Biology in 1996 at the age of 20.
Married young to a college sweetheart, Jody moved from Upstate New York to New Jersey, and from New Jersey to North Carolina. Although things didn’t work out with her husband, she discovered a new personal passion along the way…acting. After doing a couple of commercials and stock modeling jobs in Durham, North Carolina, Jody moved to Wilmington, on the coast. While working full time, she tried to involve herself as much as possible in the acting community. She took lessons, acted in community theater, landed roles in numerous independent films and found an agent who helped her to earn her eligibility to the Screen Actors Guild. Her first television role as a customer in a lingerie store was on “One Tree Hill” which filmed in Wilmington. Her first (and probably most memorable) televised line was, “Umm... sorry to interrupt, but do you have a matching thong?”
