John Saint Ryan is the working actor that was never really truly discovered. He made his acting debut in 1983 in the crime movie G.B.H co-starring with Cliff Twemlow. That same year, he starred in another film called "Target Eve Island" playing Colonel Mitri Petrovich. He then tried to get into more acting work but he got no luck so for three years, he quit the acting business.
In 1986, John Saint Ryan had become quite a wealthy man. He wanted to get back into acting but was afraid that they would reject him. He then decided to go into producing and made his first film "Into the Darkness". He also casted himself in it for a small role. However this did not make him into the celebrity circuit. The next year, he starred in the action movie "Gunpowder" co-starring with Debra Burton and Emmy-award winning actor Gordon Jackson. The same year, he got casted in the TV series "Floodtide" and after that he became a cast member of the hit British soap opera "Emmerdale".
1988 was a good year for John Saint Ryan. He went back into producing and even got the opportunity to put some creativity into the process. In 1988, he wrote, produced and starred in the action movie "The Assinator". Although the movie did not make it to the box office, it got good reviews. He then played a nightclub manager in the movie "Angel Voices". Once again, pressure got to the better of him and he was stopped showbusiness for two years.
In 1990, John Saint Ryan made a comeback in the TV movie "Shoot to Kill" playing a detective, once again John was not impressed about his role but finally luck came. In 1992, John starred in the horror movie "Eye of Satan". The movie was released straight to DVD on February 21st 1992. He played Camille Muhamed, a lead role.
John Saint Ryan then carried on with acting, doing TV work, promotional work, advertising but was determined to become a star. In 1994, John Saint Ryan played Charlie Whelan in the soap opera "Coronation Street". For five episodes, John Saint Ryan was seen by millions of viewers but he left the soap because he felt he wanted more.
Finally, John got a movie role. He got casted in the historical drama, "Squanto: A Warrior's Tale" but didn't get a lead role. John Saint Ryan then started to worry about his career whether he would ever be more than just a working actor.John Saint Ryan then shaved all his hair off in hopes of looking more "cool" and "for the part".
At last, John Saint Ryan's career went up a notch and found his fame. He starred in the movie "The Heidi Chronicals". The film starred Jamie Lee Curtis, John got a lead role as Nick. The movie received top reviews and received 3 Golden Globe nominations, Tom Hulce won an Emmy for his role in the movie. It also received 3 other Emmy nominations. Tom Hulce also won an ACE for Best Supporting Actor. John Saint Ryan however, did not win any awards but received a good review. John Saint Ryan had become what say as a rising star and won fans, his career was going up!
In 1996, John Saint Ryan had become recognised to the industry and the public. Although he had never been a main character, he stood out and people said he was a big supporting actor. The same year, he got casted in the action thriller "The Sweeper" where he played Richman,. Even though it went straight to DVD, people said it should have been a theatrical release and it received top reviews, however this was his last film. He then did a guest starring role in the Sci-fi television series, "Dark Skies".
After the fantastic year of 1996, his career continued in 1997 where he was casted in the fantasty TV series, "Roar". The series got excellent reviews and received an Emmy nomination. However, the hit series did not make it to a second season. It was so popular that they had to make a documentary behind the series called "Roar: The Making Of".
Even though his career was becoming big, his passion for his job was deterioating. He wanted a lead role in a film again but no film would take him. He going from the celebrity circuit and he needed comeback film fast! No film was prepared to take him on, John Saint Ryan was back at the TV work again.
For the last years of his acting career, he did guest starring roles in the following TV shows, "Cybill", "Players", "L.A Heat", "Crusade", the hit TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and his last job was playing an SAS Leader in the pilot of the Emmy-nominated show, "The Agency" in 2001. Since then there has been no news of John Saint Ryan. A working actor who took 11 years to be discovered.
