Kesgrave is a town in Suffolk, England, half way between Woodbridge and Ipswich.
The town was recorded as Gressgrava in the Domesday Book, by the late 15th century its name had become Kesgrave. Kesgrave remained a small settlement until the 20th century. Kesgrave parish council officially adopted the title of a town in January 2000. [1].
The three primary schools in the immediate vicinity of Kesgrave are in order of size and age (descending) Heath Primary School, Gorseland Primary School and Cedarwood Primary School.
Kesgrave has a large 11-18 comprehensive co-educational school. A recent study noted that 61% of the pupils cycled to the school. This is largely due to the installation of a large cycle lane through the housing estate and along the main road. The school actively encourages walking or cycling and provides bicycle storage facilities.
Martlesham Heath Aerodrome, a mile from Kesgrave was a significant RAF base during World War II. It closed in 1963. On 29th December 1959 an F-100D Super Sabre of 79th TFS/20th TFW flying from RAF Woodbridge crashed onto the village killing one person on the ground.
