Kimya Dawson (born November 17, 1972) is a singer-songwriter and a prominent part of the Anti-folk movement. [1] She is most well known for being the female counterpart to Adam Green in The Moldy Peaches. [2] She is well-connected with certain musicians: she appears on songs by Ben Kweller [3], They Might Be Giants [4], Third Eye Blind [5], The Mountain Goats [6], and John Wayne Shot Me [7]. Chris Barron of the '90s band Spin Doctors co-wrote and sang a Moldy Peaches song, and her friend Fabrizio Moretti landed the Peaches an opening gig for his band, The Strokes. While the Moldy Peaches have been on hiatus, Dawson released a string of lo-fi homemade albums. A sometime resident of Bedford Hills, New York, she moved in December 2005 - with her mother, father, brother (Akida Junglefoot Dawson), and nephew - to Seattle, Washington. Kimya Dawson has also appeared in Third Eye Blind's music video "Blinded". She is married to "one man band" Angelo Spencer. On July 28, 2006, Kimya gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Panda Delilah. She has since moved with her new family to Olympia, Washington (November, 2006). After Panda was born, Kimya and her husband Angelo Spencer took a break from touring for a few months, playing only occasional local shows. However, they now tour together with the baby in the audience. Fans at Kimya's shows are usually exceptionally quiet so as not to distract fellow listeners, but baby Panda takes no such precaution. Her coos sometimes distract Kimya, causing her to stop mid song and laugh. Incidentally Kimya has knuckle tattoos which read "LAFF LOUD".
