[edit] GET A LIFE!

How many times are you going to re-edit my additions? I have ALL night, sucker. You are a pathetic human being. You need to get a life and stop policing Wikipedia, you nazi loser!

[edit] Rv on Nineteen Eight-Four

A previous revision by an anonymous user (with no history of vandalism) ([1]) included a paragraph about the Big Brother Awards, which was then reverted by you. I'm not saying you were wrong to do so, but I wanted to know your reasons. --Alexs letterbox 23:15, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

(My message retracted)--AI 01:57, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Do U Smoke Crack??

My revisions to the George W Bush an Big Foot pages were da shit. And you deleted them. Queer.

[edit] AI misused stubs :(

I also want to know the reasons you, Kingturtle, have reverted my input on 2 articles last week. You left no explanation, but simply slashed ALL my work. The articles were on 2 CIA agents: Sidney Gottlieb and Allen Welsh Dulles.--AI 10:02, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • AI, you had added stub-notices to a great number of articles that didn't call for stub-notices. in the process of reverting over 20 articles to which you added stub-notices, it appears that i accidentally reverted two articles that you made more changes that just adding stub-notices. Kingturtle 10:30, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • Kingturtle, I got messages from several people about my misuse of stubs. Sorry for the hassles I created.--AI 01:54, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] New article

I've just added the article List of lifetime MLB hit leaders through history, and I'd be interested in your opinion. MisfitToys 01:40, Apr 8, 2005 (UTC)

  • I felt that there was no reason to add "inspired by 1984" in that spot. I felt that information was already aparent. Kingturtle 23:25, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Regarding my message about 'spelling', sorry, and I take it back.AI 10:04, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] What do you know about Submarines?

Since you have never served on a fast-attack submarine (as I have)...your dismissal of my post as vandalism is totalitarian and uninformed. There was nothing inaccurate in that post. If you don't believe that the US Navy takes their subs out for days at a time (at $300K per day each) just to clean them, you obviously have no right for your baseless censorship.

Until you have served on USS Topeka (SSN-754), you have no basis for your arbitrary deletions. You think I'm lying about Field Days or Spruce or impressing Congressmen? Pull your head out of your stupid fucking high school history teacher ass and acknowledge that you are not the god-know-all.

[edit] Vandalism rollbacks

Could you be a bit more careful in your use of rollbacks? When you reverted User:69.104.173.122's vandalism to Submarine, you left the prior section blanking by User:68.71.200.83 in place, and the edit summary makes it look like all the vandalism had been cleaned up. Thanks. --Carnildo 01:50, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • Sorry, i didn't see the error. thanks! Kingturtle 07:29, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I rather hope the same thing happened at Rape; while the quote that User:63.25.167.59 kept trying to add really didn't add anything substantial and new to the article, it would have been a non-harmful change, unlike the changes just before that from User:70.241.117.179, who keeps trying to remove referenced information on the occurrence of false accusations. -- Antaeus Feldspar 00:30, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Prince William

Thanks for fixing that change in style for the previous Princess of Wales at the beginning of the Prince William page. I hadn't noticed when that crept in. I do want to point out that news commentators and other "talking heads" frequently suggest (often indelicately) that the Prince of Wales should step aside for his eldest son. It's a lot of hot air, but it does happen. -Acjelen 05:01, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

I appreciate you vote of support for my adimnship nomination, thanks --nixie 06:20, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for supporting my nomination for administrator. —wwoods 05:18, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Other Words for Vomiting

I noticed that you deleted the section in the vomiting article called "Other Words for Vomiting." Why? I'd like a good reason, and don't say "Wikipedia is not a thesaurus." That's not a reason. There are articles all over the site like that. You can write to me at User talk:Wolfj. (I'm not logged in right now.

The lengthy list of synonyms i removed was based on Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, which states that Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of items of information." Wikipedia is not a thesaurus, but Wiktionary is. Consider making your thesaurus entries onto Wiktionary, and then providing a link to it on the Vomiting article. Kingturtle 20:34, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The Pokemon Test

I left a more elaborate response over at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Sunset High School (Portland) for you to read, but to illustrate what I mean, visit any of these dozen articles: Machop, Machop, Machoke, Machamp, Bellsprout, Tentacool, Tentacruel, Geodude, Graveler, Ponyta, Rapidash, Slowpoke, or Slowbro. There are dozens more just like those. My position is not that these should be deleted (they shouldn't), but that school articles are easily verifiable, expandable, useful and yes, totally encyclopedic. That last word, "encyclopedic", seems to be a huge matter of contention amongst deletionists— it's really too bad they can't find something more productive to focus their time and energy on. From the looks of it, one side believes that are encyclopedic, period, and another thinks that only a fraction of one percent are. Unfortunately I don't think a policy discussion will help matters, because it doesn't look like there is a whole lot of middle ground here. *sigh* —RaD Man (talk) 03:08, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] GoldenPalace.com Monkey

Yeah, I thought for sure that the ".com" part wasn't in the name, then I went and double checked. I think I'm gong to be very very ill..... - UtherSRG 05:57, Apr 14, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sockpuppet Alert

It the same person from yesterday, the Oliver North sockpuppet, he will be back probley under another several s/n so i would keep a look out, he is pretty easy to id. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 07:34, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Arlenthespecter3

In noticed that you'd blocked this account twice, first for 24 hours, and then indefinitely; I'm pretty sure that the expiration of the first block will override the second, so you might need to wait a while and do it afain. I've had the same problem before, and I'm currently waiting until tomorrow in order to indefinitely block User:Specterthearlen (notice the connection?). Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 14:18, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Civil War map

Thanks for your comments. That map was something I knew had to be made. I also learned a lot of county names. :) brian0918 04:09, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Although I really like the image, I didn't really think it would have a chance on FPC, but I like the publicity! brian0918

[edit] School Deletion Debate

Thanks for pointing that out to me. I'm not sure how much use I'll be since it seems that the tide of wikipedian opinion has shifted in our favor in the half-year or so since the first debate, but I will contribute my comment.--Quintucket 03:30, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • Just for the record, I am on neither side of the debate. I just want a policy decided either way. Kingturtle 07:10, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Reverted my RV?"

On Joseph McCarthy you undid my RV and returned the article to the vandalized state. The vandal not only added obscenity during his edits but also cut and pasted large parts of the article into individual sections. When my edit history showed me removing what looked like legitimate parts of the article, it's because I was undoing what the vandal did.

Please be more careful in the future and make sure that not only you are removing an act of vandalism (which you didn't), and that the version of the article that you are reverting to is not itself vandalized (which it was). 128.61.70.49 22:08, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding my RfA

Hello Kingturtle. This to tell you that I was promoted to admin today. I would like to thank you for the time you took to consider my RfA. As a result of the concerns you voiced about my capacity to become admin, I promise to proceed with extreme caution when using my new privileges. Phils 20:03, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your problem with the copyvio template

Thanks for raising your problems on IRC. I checked and sent an email about the problem on Wikitech-L. Brion Vibber came right back with an answer. It is a known and pretty serious bug which will take some time to fix. [2]. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 23:32, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Cat Stevens

All I did was remove an apostrophe and an extra 's' after Stevens. Nothing more. My comment was about the fact that the article was no longer under Cat Stevens which is how this person is best known. Wikipedia goes with the better known names. End of story. MPLX/MH 04:45, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the bureaucrat nomination, but for the next two or three months at least, I won't be able to spare the extra time due to a time consuming work contract, jimfbleak 05:12, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Are you interested in being a Bureaucrat?

sure...if nominated, I will accept. There is nothing more pleasing than getting a fancy title and having some more janitorial duties thrown on me. if selected, i will monitor the page as needed.--Jiang 06:41, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I should be the one apologizing for wasting your time with this failed nomination. I failed to realize the number of people I had inflamed in that Liancourt Rocks/Dokdo incident.

I will be withdrawing this nomination. Thank you for considering and supporting me. --Jiang 06:11, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] April 16

Could you please explain your recent removal in the section Deaths on April 16? It just looks a bit odd, silently deleting items without explanation. Bye, Shinobu 06:47, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • I didn't silently delete them. I stated in my edit summary I was deleting them. Their Wikipedia articles are one sentence stubs, so I removed their names from the April 16 page. I was being bold. Kingturtle 15:33, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, that is an explanation. I apologize for the term "silently", but an edit summary that says "deleted this and that" is not always that helpful. Apart from that the question wasn't meant as anything more than a question. Bye, Shinobu 17:18, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Please stop unilaterally deleting these people. I'm going to put them back. RickK 66.60.159.190 18:56, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • I will not stop deleting insignificant entries that appear on days-of-the-year pages. If the names are important to you, I will not stop you from putting them back. Kingturtle 19:04, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA

Thanks for supporting my successful RfA. I will do my best to live up to the responsibility and your trust. --khaosworks 07:07, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Hello, Kingturtle. Thanks for your vote at my adminship nomination. I appreciate the support. Cheers! — Trilobite (Talk) 14:09, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thany you

Thank you very much for your offer to nominate me as a bureaucrat. I take it as a great compliment. For the time being, however, I don't think it is necessary. If there is in any way a shortage of bureaucrats I'm fine with a nomination, but I do not see that. Moreover I don't follow adminship issues too closely and I feel that while the title would be an honour I would end up doing little work to justify my new powers. - SimonP 15:37, Apr 27, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] bureaucratship

I'm afraid I'd have to oppose Curps' nomination for bureaucratship. I was rather surprised by his use of admin powers in The Matrix, particularly unprotecting a protected article on an extremely dubious pretext, and his subsequent failure to concede error. If he disagreed with my protection of the article or feels I was at fault that's fine but he should have dealt with it differently. AndyL 15:43, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Kingturtle, I could probably be capable of carrying out the janitorial work of flipping the admin-flag-on switch once in a while, which bureaucratship seems to consist of in large part. But I'm not convinced that there is a shortage of bureaucrats, from the log it seems that this needs to be done only half a dozen times per week and most sysop promotions are handled by a single bureaucrat. Also, I've only been an admin for a few months now. So I don't feel that I would seek bureaucratship at this time. Thanks very much for the offer, however. -- Curps 18:24, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
AndyL, as always, see you at Talk:The Matrix. I have described my objections to your actions there, at considerable length. -- Curps 18:24, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bureaucrats

Thanks for your message...to be honest, though, I don't really feel all that up to being a bureaucrat right now. I've had a lot on my mind and haven't been feeling like a terribly useful Wikicontributor of late. At another time in the future, I may very well be happy to accept the nomination, but right now I just don't feel up to the level of responsibility that it entails. Bearcat 22:32, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Schools

*Isn't the precedent set by Sunset High School (Portland) to keep high schools? Kingturtle 07:17, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • I'm afraid not. I could cite precedent for both keeping and deleting schools, it's nowhere near as simple. However, we're working on a compromise (consisting of 'keep' some schools and 'merge' the rest). I'd be interested in your opinion thereon. Radiant_* 07:25, Apr 28, 2005 (UTC)
    • On this particular issue, I have no solid opinion. I just want to know what the policy is, so I can follow it. Kingturtle 07:28, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Nats

Thanks for being the champion on this issue. The Expos and Nationals are the same franchise, had the Expos moved ten years ago, this debate would not be occuring. Wikipedia needs to be constitent and not have an exception when one is not warrented. However it seems that an interest group who perhaps are thinking with their hearts are probably going to win the day on this arguement, but I believe you are 100% correct on the issue.Smith03 15:52, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the heads-up

Thanks. I commented on the vfd page for Montreal Expos. I'm not sure why this is confusing for so many people. It's like my favorite team, the Brewers. They spent just a single year in Seattle as the Pilots (1969) and yet all of the Pilots records are considered Brewers records. I voted for redirect. --Woohookitty 18:03, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] re: Expos and Nationals

You are confusing the team with the franchise. (explained on the vfd page) I'm not sure why you are so obsessed with mashing the pages together, anyway. What's to be gained by that? How does it make Wikipedia better? - Pioneer-12 19:46, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • All MLB, NFL and NBA team pages already have their old location and names redirecting to the current team name. This is not by accident. Kingturtle 19:48, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • It happened for a reason, but that doesn't mean it happened for a good reason. Information wise, merging the Expos/Nationals articles is problematic. For example, that pretty infobox with the Expos stats would seem out of place on the Nationals page. In any case, rigid conformity is not something to be desired; flexibility is fundamental, and pluralism is important. Another reason not to merge is simply the will of the fans (yes, that is a significant reason).... If some people want a page, all other things being equal, Wikipedia is better off giving it to them; it just fosters goodwill. - Pioneer-12 20:29, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I don't see how those are useful examples. There's no discussion on either of those pages... so no idea what the Grizzlies and Hornets fans think of the move and having only one page for everything.
I can see that you are just going to go on and on forever about this. I'm still not sure why you are bothering. - Pioneer-12 08:48, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] bureaucracy

Hi, I am considering nominating you to become a Bureaucrat. The role would involve giving administrator or bureaucrat access to other users following consensus on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. Although there are currently 18 bureaucrats, it may be helpful to have a few more. If you would accept a nomination, please let me know. Kingturtle 04:27, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

OK ... but if lots of paparazzi start following me around, I'll complain to you. Michael Hardy 21:09, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Expos/Nats

I weighed in, but it looks like we are in the minority. Ellsworth 21:36, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Seven-twenty

Considering, firstly, that the work at July 20 I labored on for many weeks and which stood for months unremarked upon by any Wikipedian was largely removed by you without asking for the opinion of anyone else, and, secondly, that my attempts to address the issues regarding the file size raised on the talk page were summarily reverted by you within minutes, you will forgive me for failing to believe your invitation yesterday on Talk:July 20 to comment is a serious one. PedanticallySpeaking 16:39, Apr 29, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "Teflon Ron"

I'm not going to get into a "war" with you about this, but 120 Google hits on a nickname of a recent president of the United States looks to me like evidence of non-notablity. Try Googling "Slick Willy" or "Tricky Dick". -- Jmabel | Talk 05:51, Apr 30, 2005 (UTC)

  • Although it is a less significant nickname, the name was popular in the 1980s. That the internet does not reflect that is not surprising - because the internet wasn't around then. Kingturtle 09:25, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bureaucratship

After thinking it over for a few days, I must regretfully decline your offer. It seems that we have all the bureaucrats we need right now, and they do the job quite speedily. Not to mention that the nomination would probably turn into a public witch trial ;). Perhaps in a few months. Thanks again, and warmest regards --Neutralitytalk 14:43, Apr 30, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

I do have a user name, but I don't always log on. I'm glad you appreciate my edits. 208.187.9.32 05:13, 1 May 2005 (UTC)Ksnow

[edit] Expos/Nationals

I appreciate your invitation to participate in the debate, and I'm sorry I displeased you with my decision. Since we live so close to each other, perhaps we could meet for a coffee or beer or something and have an in-person discussion on the issue. If you're interested, ask gmail about my Wikipedia username. The first "coffee or beer or something" is on me :-) Vik Reykja 02:18, 2 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] My RFA

Thank you for your comments on my RFA. Although the voting period just ended with a 14-8-2 vote, I will admit once and for all that I used it more as an evaluation of myself. Being promoted would have been a plus. I was more interested in who voted, when they voted, who would change their votes and when, and the comments I would receive. Hopefully I will correct the main weakness that was raised by those who voted oppose -- that I was too eager to put articles on VFD. Also, I will try to interact more with those Wikipedians who did not vote at all.

As for next month, I don't know if I will nominate myself again. I might not think about it until somebody else puts me up there on RFA at a later date. Eventually, I see myself as an admin, especially as the number of articles and users continues to grow. Thanks again and good luck at improving this vast archive of free knowledge. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 09:22, 3 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Minor Edits

I do usually annotate minor edits but some things are just so trivial it doesn't seem worth the effort. I couldn't find any reference to your quoted policy of never using the minor edit flag for day articles. Lots of people don't seem to know this either? --Rjstott 09:59, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

  • Wikipedia:Minor edit says that minor edit markers are for spelling corrections, formatting, and minor rearranging of text. it goes on to say "any real change, even if it is a single word, is a major edit." It isn't trivial to add a name to a list of deaths. It is helpful to other users if such an edit is not marked minor, and if the edit summary says something like "added Hippolyte Fizeau to list of deaths." Kingturtle 10:37, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Satomi Mitarai

I added Satomi Mitarai's entry because her death is part of the basis of the Nevada-tan internet meme. Just wrote an article for her, since one hadn't been done before.--Mitsukai 04:58, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

  • I've asked a few questions for clarification...see Talk:Nevada-tan. Kingturtle 05:04, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
    • Answered them as much as I could. Hope it helps. --Mitsukai 05:07, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Poiuytman

"I'd like to see more activity - more experience with the peer groups"

Hi, I'm just asking for a bit of clarification on "peer groups". Do you mean working on various cooperative projects, or participating in various community portal tasks? I actually don't visit the portal very often; the sheer number of sections and links are daunting (IMO the page needs a bit of reorganization). I do think I need to collaborate with others more, maybe help out with peer reviews and such. I tend to come up with big goals, and due to my independent nature, I don't ask for help, and can't always finish the projects I start.

So anyway, maybe you could suggest some areas of Wikipedia I might be able to help out with? --Poiuyt Man (talk) 06:36, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "May 5, 1945" Lakewood

Hello, Kingturtle. I see that you are cleaning up the May 5 page. Please see fire balloon and the first two external links listed at the end. Would you consider undoing this edit, please ? Looks legit to me. -- PFHLai 08:03, 2005 May 6 (UTC)

I was just checking your user contributions to see if you have replied to my earlier (above) message, and noticed that you have been cleaning up the April 19 page, too. Thought I could answer the question you asked in this edit summary. In 1928, the 125th and final fascicle -- not volume nor edition -- of the Oxford English Dictionary was published. (It covered the W's.) I've restored the item with the correction. Also, don't worry about the item on the May 5 page. I've restored that as well. Cheers. -- PFHLai 08:29, 2005 May 6 (UTC)

  • I'm in California, USA, so I missed your initial question because I was asleep. Thanks for clearing up both of this issues. The language you used in the OED entry is much better. Kingturtle 13:50, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for welcoming me to Wikipedia. Skeeter08865

[edit] Minor edits...

Sorry. I didn't really realise there were 'rules' for when to tick the 'minor' box. I tend to just tick it if it was a quick edit, rather than comparing the edit to the normal edits for that the article. I've been around for a while, so I'll have to start paying attention soon! --Ben davison 17:22, 7 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Afghan stamp

I don't see any problem with Image:Stamp Afghan 1892-600px.jpg myself, either shrunken or fullsize version - messed-up browser cache? You may want to try deleting the entire cache if you haven't done that already. Stan 06:04, 8 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia IS COMMUNISM

Hey there. In case you didn't realise when you tried to fix the Wikipedia move vandalism, you just deleted the nearly-4000 edits of the real thing! They're all at Wikipedia IS COMMUNISM - GAY FUCKERS FAGS and need undeleting now. violet/riga (t) 19:51, 8 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] George Bush vandal

Every time I look for you to tell you something in IRC, you're never on :p Anyway, that George Bush vandal hops around on 128.122.128.0/24 and 128.122.129.0/24, so what I've been doing is blocking both for an hour the first time the vandalism pops up. I noticed you placed a block for that specific IP, but in the future you may want to use the range blocks (that is, if I don't set them first). Cheers. CryptoDerk 22:09, May 8, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] You're welcome

Not a problem: correcting day entries is just something I fell into to pass the time between assignments at the office. Simple editing and doesn't require a lot of preparation/investment in time. --Calton | Talk 07:34, 9 May 2005 (UTC)

...if you delete names from an article, please do not mark it as a minor edit. some people have their settings so they don't see minor edits at all. Sorry, I didn't realize that. I didn't even know that was possible, so I'll be more aware in the future. --Calton | Talk 08:06, 12 May 2005 (UTC)
