KSEE (on-air, referred to as KSEE24, pronounced "K-SEE") is the NBC affiliate in Fresno, California, broadcasting on television channel 24. KSEE started transmitting on June 1, 1953, as KMJ-TV. It was the first station to go on-air in Fresno, and the first to use color film and network color in 1954.
From 1953 until 1981, KMJ-TV was owned by the McClatchy family, whose assets included KMJ radio and three Californian newspapers called The Bee, in Fresno, Sacramento and Modesto.
In 1981, McClatchy retired from television station ownership by selling KMJ-TV to San Joaquin Communications, which changed the station's call letters to the present-day KSEE (as McClatchy would hold on to KMJ radio until 1987). San Joaquin Communications, in turn, sold KSEE to Meredith Corporation in 1984.
KSEE is owned and operated by Granite Broadcasting Corporation, which purchased KSEE, along with Syracuse, New York's CBS affiliate WTVH, from Meredith Corporation on December 27, 1993. Granite owns and operates 8 network-affiliated television stations nationwide and is listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the symbol GBTVK. KSEE is an NBC network affiliate, and a member of the National Association of Broadcasters.
The station may have changed its call letters once, but its network affiliation hasn't; it is one of the two Central California television stations that has never changed its affiliation, and has been since the mid-1980s been the region's second rated television station, behind longtime leader KFSN. The other station to keep its affiliation is KMPH.
KSEE offers NBC Weather Plus on its digital subchannel 38.
