KXVO Channel 15 is the The CW affiliated television station in Omaha, Nebraska. The station is owned by Pappas Telecasting and shares operations and studios with another Pappas-owned station, FOX affiliate KPTM. KXVO began broadcasting in 1995; its transmitter is located in Gretna, Nebraska.
KXVO's schedule includes CW, Kids' WB and 4Kids (FOX) programs as well as reruns of The Simpsons, That '70s Show, Malcolm in the Middle, Smallville, Stargate SG-1, King of the Hill, and other shows.
Early in 2006, the station began airing a ten o'clock newscast, "The KXVO 15 10 O'Clock News," which is produced by KPTM. In April of the same year former MTV VJ and reality show host Brian McFayden was hired to host the program. Upon his arrival, the format of the show had evolved into a sort of McFayden-ego-fest variety show, featuring a two minute bit at the beginning of the show in which McFayden and his cameraman, local semi-celebrity Joseph Buda, stage humorous misadventures. In June of the same year, McFayden left the show to explore other options in his career, amid rumors that his hiring was unable to save the newscast's low ratings. In late August 2006, comedian and Second City Training Center alumnus Matt Geiler was named the new host of "The KXVO 15 10 O'Clock News." This marked the start of what many consider the "golden age" of the program, during which Geiler and his team continued to produce material that ranks among the best on network television. Some regular features were "Quizzes and Riddles with Bram Niapost", "That's a Prat!", and "Mangift." Mitts Telecasting once produced the show when Calvert Collins was hosting the show. "The KXVO 15 10 O'Clock News" still uses their independent digital on-screen graphic. On December 4, 2006 KXVO changed its opening credits. Their background was changed in early February. Past hosts include (In order):
- Calvert Collins,
- Brian McFayden,
- JJ Davis,
- Taylor Stein,
- Katie Breen,
- Matt Geiler
The "KXVO 15 10 O'Clock News" will cease production with the April 12, 2007 edition.[1]
