- A Light Amphibious Reconnaissance Craft (LARC) filled with US Sailors, Marines and Russian media departs the shores of a mock disaster area for a US Landing Craft Unit (LCU) during Exercise COOPERATION FROM THE SEA '96 near Vladivostok, Russia. The simulated disaster area was designed for Russian and US medical personnel and Marines to conduct joint relief efforts to a small community struck by natural disaster. The exercise is a joint venture between US and Russian naval forces designed to improve disaster-relief operations and to further understanding between the two nations.
