Lightning Strike Coalition
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lightning Strike Coalition (or L.S.C.) is a fictional faction of Autobots in Dreamwave Productions' Transformers: The War Within comic series. They were introduced in volume 2 of the series, known as "The Dark Ages". The L.S.C. had a reputation as powerful soldiers who used hit and run tactics to cause trouble for the Decepticons and their factions and being pro-active in attacking their opponents first.

[edit] History
In the first volume of The War Within, Grimlock led a small faction of Autobots consisting of himself, Ironhide, Kup and Wheeljack. Other unknown Autobots were included in this group one casualty was seen in their initial appearance.
In the span of time between volumes 1 and 2 (several million years), Optimus Prime and Megatron were lost in a Space Bridge accident. Due to the loss of strong leadership, both the Autobots and Decepticons split into several sub-factions based on different goals and philosophies.
The Lightning Strike Coalition was an expansion of Grimlock's earlier team, now including the additions of Slag, Swoop, Sludge and Snarl, Inferno and Smokescreen (though the later two were not featured in the story). Grimlock led his Lightning Strike Coalition to fight the battles he considered most important. On one notable occasion they took a large quantity of Energon from under the noses of Starscream's Predacons. Despite this, the team was not absolutely loyal to Grimlock, abandoning him en masse to help Prowl's Autobots from being slaughtered by Trypticon rather than help him confront the (falsely assumed) traitorous Jetfire. Afterward, when they realized the scenario was engineered by the Chaos Trinity (working for the mysterious Fallen) to abduct Grimlock and Jetfire, the L.S.C temporarily joined forces with the Autobots and Shockwave's Decepticons to rescue their leader.
In the third volume of The War Within, the L.S.C. was disbanded when the various Autobot factions were united by Ultra Magnus. Grimlock worked under Magnus but kept four of his best L.S.C. members under his direct command: Slag, Sludge, Swoop and Snarl. These troops were called the 'Dynobots'. Starscream's Predacons were still active however, and when Motormaster attempted to assassinate Ultra Magnus, Grimlock jumped in front of the blast, and seemingly died. Grimlock's fate was not revealed due to Dreamwave's closure, but he obviously recovered since he was alive in the present day.
Millions of years later, when the Ark disappeared on its maiden voyage, Grimlock and the Dynobots were sent on a mission to discover its fate. Landing on prehistoric Earth the five Dynobots were reformatted into the form of robotic Earth animals (dinosaurs). They were later ambushed by three Decepticons - Bombshell, Shrapnel and Kickback, and remained on Earth in stasis lock until they were discovered in the 1980s and brought back online by the Autobots on the Ark. Because of their alternate modes, the Dynobots were given the name Dinobots.
[edit] Miscellanea
- In IDW Publishing's The Transformers: Spotlight, Grimlock once again led the Dynobots in an attack against Shockwave. They initially had the same alternate modes as their Dreamwave counterparts, though Simon Furman (the writer of both stories) said this was a coincidence.
