This is a list of former monarchs of sovereign states who are living, as of 2006. Former holders of the title Yang di-Pertuan Agong in Malaysia are not listed, because they are selected from the nine subnational Malay states.

- Jigme Singye Wangchuk (King of Bhutan, 1972-2006)
- Simeon II (Tsar of Bulgaria, 1943-1946)
- Norodom Sihanouk (King of Cambodia, 1941-1955 and 1993-2004)
- Fuad II (King of Egypt, 1952-1953)
- Constantine II (King of the Hellenes, 1964-1973)
- Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Al Salim Al Sabah (Emir of Kuwait, 2006)
- Jean (Grand Duke of Luxembourg, 1964-2000)
- Michael I (King of Romania, 1927-1930 and 1940-1947)
- Sayyid Jamshid bin Abdullah (Sultan of Zanzibar, 1963-1964)
King Kigeri V of Rwanda is also living, but reigned under the Belgian trust territory of Ruanda-Urundi.
