Talk:List of music releases featuring a vocoder
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Feel free to improve this list, it's very far from being complete, it's just a stub, but please do not delete this article suddenly without any discussion (I guess that someone is tempted to do so). Brian W 03:27, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Abandoned?
It looks like the original author has been blocked from editing. I'm a huge lover of vocoders in music, and I'll be doing some re-organizing of this list if it's alright with everyone else. --Nullcherri 18:13, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Maintainability?
There was a list about songs with "robotic" voices" which I removed for reasons stated on the linked page (mainly, that it is unmaintainable). A list of songs (somehere featuring a) vocoder is at least a bit more specific, but as you can already see it is going to get HUGE.
Of course (for making the effort of adding such a lot of songs) I love the vocoder in music, and I can see the point in a list like this. I'm unsure though whether it will be maintainable. Perhaps we should have a little stricter criteria (IE. artists using vocoder on at least two albums, stuff like that). Or, just pick, say 10 significant songs/albums from different genres which could then go into the vocoder article. Arru 13:31, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I agree this list is unmaintainable in its current form. Genre seems a bit subjective and tricky to me - perhaps this page should be like the list was originally in the Vocoder article, with songs grouped by decade and maybe we can limit to 10 songs per decade as was (unsuccessfully) done there. It may not ever be a perfect list, but it would still be of use and since it's separate from the Vocoder article it's not the end of the world if it grows a little bit too big. -- Oarih 01:26, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm removing the deletion template. If someone wants to file yet another RFD, go ahead, but I would oppose that too. As a fan of popular music, this page is useful to me in that it helps differentiate between songs that use vocoders and songs that use other techniques that are frequently confused with vocoders, like talk boxes and Antares Autotune. On the other hand, the argument put forth in the deletion box (that it's equivalent to an article on songs using guitar, or songs using tambourine) is invalid, because guitars and tambourines are both very commonly used and vocoders are much less so outside the realm of electronic and avant-garde music. [edit] Proposed changes
- I've withdrawn my AFD with hopes that editors of this article with follow through with the proposed changes as discussed on the AFD. Wickethewok 21:32, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
