Hello there. I'm Lobizón, a young Argentinian wikipedia user, that has finally decided to start contributing, after many time spent taking advantage of other user's contributions, and of timidly reading their talk pages.
As a (future) economist, I'm inclined to support democracy, and neo-keynesian ideas, "fair trade" capitalism, or even market socialism, as a pragmatic way to increase living standards and equality of opportunity, and achieve true development for third world countries. While I'm uncomfortable with the capitalist system, I believe the market-regulated price system is the best way to allocate resources efficiently, and so I'm not very confident on its alternatives either. I believe that, if monopolies, trusts and excessive concentration of power are avoided, and true equality of opportunity is guaranteed (by implementing publically-funded education, social welfare, public healthcare, agrarian reform, etc.), then capitalism can truly be a fair system that can help to increase the social well-being of a population and promote the development of its individuals.
That is why I'm also strongly opposed to economic globalization in the way its being done today, since it's being used as an excuse to implement neoliberal economic policies all over the globe, reducing the power of democratic states (thus reducing the power of the people than live in them), slowly destroying the middle classes and the environment, creating poverty, and placing even more power in the hands of a few bussiness executives. This worrysome trend can be seen in practices such as outsourcing, which is nothing more than the closing of factories in the well-paying, democratic first world, in place of sweatshops and slave-like labour in third world countries with weak or unexistant democracy, little regulations, lower wages and working rights. I see globalization as a "race to the bottom", in which countries are rolling back all the progress made on the last 50 years by butchering their working rights, laws and social equality to get that "utopian" investment, causing economic power it become slowly being concentrated in the hands of a few global multinational companies, that also happen to control many media conglomerates and have extensive political lobbies in various countries. I think the widening gap between the rich and the poor, and the increasing influence large companies have on public opinion and politics all over the globe, are a serious threat to democracy everywhere and the proof that the current economic trends are not really beneficial to human progress. (I could go on, but that isn't the main objective of this page). Despite my POV, I try to keep my edits in the wiki as neutral as possible.
I'm a University of Buenos Aires Economics student, even though I'm not too confident on my career choice, since my interests are very varied. I'm very interested in everything related to Economics, History, Politics, Music, Philosophy and Literature.
I consider myself both an agnostic and a naturalistic pantheist.
