Lucille Roybal-Allard (born June 12, 1941), an American politician, has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1993, representing the 33rd and 34th District of California (map), which includes downtown Los Angeles.
She was born in Boyle Heights, California, the daughter of Representative Edward R. Roybal and Lucille Beserra Roybal. She was educated at Ramona Convent Secondary School in Alhambra, California, and California State University, Los Angeles. Prior to be elected to public office she was a public relations and fund raising executive.

[edit] Political career
Before being elected to Congress Roybal-Allard was a member of the California State Assembly. In 1992, she became the first Mexican-American woman elected to Congress. Along with Nydia Velasquez of New York City, she was the second Latina after Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and wit Velasquez, the first Democrat.
As an elected representative she has focused on issues that have affected the district and people she represents, working families and the country. She has promoted efforts to modernize and upgrade public schools, improve school safety, increase the federal minimum wage, reduce the high Hispanic drop-out rates, preserve Social Security and Medicare, and stimulate economic growth to create new jobs.
She has also served as the Chair of the California Democratic Congressional Delegation (1998-1999) and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. She has also been active on the Congressional Children's Working Group, Democratic Homeland Security Task Force and the Livable Communities Task Force.
She currently sits on the House Appropriations and Standards of Official Conduct committees.

Roybal-Allard is married to Edward T. Allard, III. She has two children Ricardo Olivarez, and Lisa Marie Roybal Elliott (born Olivarez), two step children Angela Allard and Guy Mark Allard and four grandchildren. Her husband is a management consultant and a retired Marine Corps captain. She lives in East Los Angeles, California .
