Mantoloking, New Jersey

Mantoloking is a Borough in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough had a total population of 423. Mantoloking is the wealthiest community in the state of New Jersey and is ranked as the 15th highest-income place in the United States.
Mantoloking was incorporated as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 10, 1911, from portions of Brick Township.[1]
Mantoloking is a Jersey Shore community situated on the Barnegat Peninsula, a long, narrow barrier peninsula that separates Barnegat Bay from the Atlantic Ocean. Mantoloking is home to the Olympic-champion producing Mantoloking Yacht Club. Mantoloking is home to many homes of the seashore colonial design with cedar shakes; popular in places like Cape Cod, Nantucket and Newport. Notable past residents include Richard Nixon and Katharine Hepburn. Together with Bay Head to the north, Mantoloking is considered part of the Jersey Shore's "Gold Coast".

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.7 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (33.33%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 423 people, 207 households, and 140 families residing in the borough. The population density was 371.2/km² (958.6/mi²). There were 522 housing units at an average density of 458.1/km² (1,183.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.64% White, 1.65% African American, 0.47% Asian, 0.24% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.71% of the population.
There were 207 households out of which 11.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.8% were married couples living together, 3.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% were non-families. 30.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.02 and the average family size was 2.45.
In the borough the population was spread out with 10.2% under the age of 18, 3.8% from 18 to 24, 10.6% from 25 to 44, 39.2% from 45 to 64, and 36.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 58 years. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.0 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $105,841, and the median income for a family was $125,000. Males had a median income of $100,000 versus $64,167 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $114,017. None of the families and 0.8% of the population were living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and 2.2% of those over 64.

The Mayor of Mantoloking is William K. Dunbar III. Members of the Borough Council are Council President Elbert E. Husted III, Evan S. Gillingham, John H Jones, George Nebel, Douglas Popaca and Peter R. Strohm.[3]
[edit] Federal, state and county representation
Mantoloking is in the Fourth Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 10th Legislative District.[4]
New Jersey's Fourth Congressional District, covering portions of Burlington County, Mercer County, Monmouth County and Ocean County, is represented by Christopher Smith (R). New Jersey is represented in the Senate by Frank Lautenberg (D, Cliffside Park) and Bob Menendez (D, Hoboken).
The 10th legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by Andrew R. Ciesla (R, Brick) and in the Assembly by James W. Holzapfel (R, Brick) and David W. Wolfe (R, Brick). The Governor of New Jersey is Jon Corzine (D, Hoboken).
Ocean County is governed by a five-member Board of Chosen Freeholders. Ocean County's Freeholders are: John C. Bartlett Jr., John P. Kelly, James F. Lacey, Gerry P. Little and Joseph H. Vicari.

Students in Mantoloking attend public school in Point Pleasant Beach as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Point Pleasant Beach School District.[5]
