Margaret Stonborough-Wittgenstein

Margarethe ("Gretl") Stonborough-Wittgenstein (19 September 1882 - 1958), of the prominent and wealthy Viennese Wittgenstein family, was a sister of the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, and was the subject of a famous 1905 portrait by the artist Gustav Klimt, which may now be found in the Neue Pinakothek gallery in Munich, Germany.
In 1905, she was married to a wealthy American chemist, Jerome Stonborough, whom she divorced in 1923. They had two children.
In 1926, she commmissioned her brother Ludwig, with the architect Paul Engelmann to design and build the famous Wittgenstein House house for her in Vienna. This noted building still stands today, and now houses the Bulgarian Cultural Institute.
