Mark Porter (doctor)

Dr Mark Porter MB BS DA DCH (born September 1962, Stroud) is a medical doctor who appears on UK television and radio to advise on medical problems. He also has a weekly programme on Radio 4 called Case Notes, where individual medical conditions are discussed for the whole programme and acts a health consultant for Jeremy Vine's programme on Radio 2. He has a general practice in Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire.

He grew up in Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire, and went to Wycliffe College. He studied at University College, London and Westminster Hospital Medical School (now Imperial College School of Medicine) and graduated in 1986. He has been a GP since 1990. He joined the BBC in 1992 as the doctor for the morning show Good Morning with Anne and Nick and was there for the whole show's run. He lives in the Cotswolds with his wife Ros, and two teenage daughters. He was the health editor for the Radio Times from 1993-2003. He presented the BBC1 programme Watchdog Healthcheck. He has columns in the [[Evening Standard], Sainsbury's Magazine and Closer. He was awarded the MBEin 2005 for services to medicine.
