Martyr is a Canadian technical death metal band.

Inspired by Atheist, Cynic and Death style, Martyr plays highly technical death metal. Daniel Mongrain played guitar for Gorguts, another Canadian death metal band, on their From Wisdom to Hate record, and toured. Daniel Mongrain has also toured as a second guitarist for Cryptopsy and session-recorded for Quo Vadis and Capharnaum. Luc Lemay, singer/guitarist of Gorguts delivers a monologue on the last song "Realms of Reverie" of the Warp Zone album.

Lyrically Martyr explore the human psyche, mostly its darkest corners, giving the listener a cynical view of humanity in general. Daniel is the main vocalist and produces most of the "high" vocals. François does the lower growls.

Being technical metal as well as progressive metal, Martyr's guitar, bass and drum techniques are elaborate and difficult to reproduce. They employ frequent time signatures changes and often use dissonant chords. They compose mind twisting riffs that complement the philosophical topics they explore.
