Maryland Route 547
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Maryland Route 547 is an east-west, two-lane highway, 1.8 miles in length, connecting Routes 355 and 185 in southern Montgomery County, Maryland. The Maryland State Highway Administration classifies it as a secondary state highway and an urban minor arterial route.
Route 547 begins at Rockville Pike in North Bethesda, Maryland, just north of the Strathmore Hall Arts Center and the Grosvenor Metro station, across from Georgetown Preparatory School, and south of White Flint Mall. At that point, it is called Strathmore Avenue. In the Garrett Park Estates neighborhood, the route has a frontage road, also called Strathmore Avenue, for houses on the north side. On the south side, the property of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association national office and of the Roman Catholic Church opens directly onto the main roadway. Strathmore Avenue continues into Garrett Park, Maryland, where it is the only route for automotive traffic into or out of that town.
The route crosses Rock Creek Park and changes its name to Knowles Avenue. It continues into Kensington, Maryland, where it loses its state highway designation at the intersection with Connecticut Avenue. Knowles Avenue continues as a local street for another block.
All street addresses on both Strathmore Avenue and Knowles Avenue are assigned as through the road were an east-west street in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C., except that the quadrant designation is redundant and therefore not used.
