May Chiu

May Chiu (b. 1965) is the first Chinese-born Québécoise to have run as a candidate for the Bloc Québécois party in Montreal, Québec, Canada. In the January 23, 2006 Canadian federal elections she ran against the then-Prime Minister of Canada, Paul Martin in his riding of LaSalle—Émard. Chiu placed second behind Martin with 28.64% of the vote. She is a well known attorney and (McGill) community activist who has been helping in causes like low-cost housing and the Chinese immigrant headtax redress.
