[edit] Publicity
From their brochure:
In 1985, Mom and Pop were talked into opening their home for a family-style, reservation-only restaurant. Business grew by word of mouth, they were feeding 40 to 60 guests 5 nights a week.
The front yard was the parking lot for tour busses and guests from all over the world. The enclosed front porch was no longer large enough, so the living room was put to service and finally became a dining area too. Daughters and daughters-in-law were enlisted as cooks, and grandchildren as waiters and bussers.
After ten years on the farm, Lehman's moved into Butterfield Inn, in Tipton, MO. With the good help of family and friends, Lehman's continued to serve family-style dinners. The need was felt to move nearer to the area where the help was located.
Five years later, on April 29, 2000, Lehman's opened as a full-time restaurant at our present location. Often we are asked what Mennonite cooking is. It is our heritage from our German, Swiss, Dutch and Russian ancestors to cook what we grow. Real butter and cream, bone-in ham and special beef cuts still go into our food preparation.
In an average month Lehman's makes 800 pies, 1650 loaves of bread; Leahman uses 22 cases of flour, 28 cases of eggs, 48 cases of bacon, 48 cases of chicken, 2800 lbs. of potatoes, 28 cases of green beans, 12 cases of corn, 12 cases of lettuce, 4 cases of napkins.
