Talk:Miguzi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Perhaps someone could field statistics on the popularity of the Muguzi block in comparison to Toonami. More importantly, does anyone know why Cartoon Network decided to replace Toonami's afternoon block? TomStar81 22:54, 20 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Most likely because the parents though "Geez, if the at-night thing is inappropreate, the afternoon one is probably inappropreate, too," so they replaced it with Miguzi. --Wack'd About Wiki 10:45, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
BULLSH*T!! Cartoon Network used to rock when Toonami was on weekdays, now, with the exception of Adult Swim, Cartoon Network just sucks. TomStar81 23:38, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Meaning?

What does "Miguzi" mean? Is it supposed to sound like pseudo-Japanese or something? Kakashi-sensei 18:45, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Miguzi is most likely the name of the ship that most the characters live in, but that's just a guess. It is also very likely the name is not Japenese. --Wack'd About Wiki 10:45, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Well, I know that it can't be Japanese (natural Japanese does not have a "zi" sound; the character that beginners think would make a "zi" sound actually makes a "ji" sound). My guess is that the creators made up a name that sounded like it was Japanese to remind kids of the anime aspect of Toonami. Or it may have been just a marketing scheme to cash into the anime craze without buying any actual anime :D . Kakashi-sensei 15:10, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
I can explain the definitition of Miguzi (and I've done so back in February 2006). The name has its origins with Williams Street and the Toonami block (Miguzi's predecessor) itself.

In 2000, Williams Street began editing a few shows on Toonami. While FUNimation produced Dragon Ball Z and Cloverway produced Sailor Moon, Williams Street edited Gundam Wing and Tenchi for the afternoon crowd. Tenchi Muyo introduced a visual concept that has been known as the "digital swimsuit," a painted-on bathing suit to block out nudity from the show. These digital swimsuits would find their way on numerous shows throughout Toonami's history, including 08th MS Team and Outlaw Star.

Mizugi is a Japanese word for a swimsuit, and if you switch the "z" with the "g" (in a way, that switch is symbolic with what Cartoon Network did, switching a block that had made a mark with Dragon Ball "Z" with a block that is aimed more towards "g"irls), you have Miguzi, a name that connects itself to Toonami and, in a way, Adult Swim, the three blocks made by Williams Street Productions.

So, yes, it is psuedo-Japanese in origin, but it's also connected to the three blocks made by Williams Street in this way as well.Nemalki 01:32, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

It is set underwater, so they're probably making it sound like "Jicoozi" (sp?). They just added the "m" for no reason I guess.

[edit] Trey?

Who's Trey? There's a character named Tre so I changed the link name to Tre.

[edit] Help

I need some help fleshing out this article, I currently need old Miguzi schedules, History, and, well, anything else that can be offered.

[edit] Variety

User:Danny Lilithborne deleted a paragraph about the variety of the Miguzi block however I have chosen to restore it due to its relevance.

[edit] Naruto

  • I watched Cartoon Network on Friday, and Miguzi now ends after Pokemon Advanced Battle (5:30), before Naruto, which airs without any Miguzi bumpers. JuJube 13:19, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, that's strange. CN's online schedule page and ToonZone both say it includes Naruto. Matty-chan 14:21, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I thought it was odd too, considering all the hubbub around the new airtime. I'm thinking they just don't want to have to edit the show to make it kid friendly like the rest of Miguzi, so this was the solution. JuJube 14:23, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
