Minnesota State Highway 77 is a Limited Access Highway that connects Apple Valley, Minnesota to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Highway 77 overlaps the right of way of Cedar Avenue between Highway 62 and McAndrews Road. Until 1994 the highway then followed McAndrews along its route to the Minnesota Zoo, where it terminated. The most notable landmark along the length of Highway 77 is Mall of America, which sits just south of the intersection of 77 and Interstate 494. It originally was designated part of Minnesota State Highway 36 north of Minnesota State Highway 13, but that highway currently ends in Roseville, Minnesota and 77 was created from the remaining route. Current plans are to extend Highway 77 south to intersect County Road 42 in Apple Valley.
MN-77's Cedar Avenue Bridge over the Minnesota River is the longest bridge entirely within the state.
[edit] Notes
Highway 77's mile markers are calibrated with the zero point at the intersection of Dakota County Highways 42 and 23, Highway 23 is the part of Cedar Ave that runs southward after the freeway and will (partly) someday be future 77.
Much of the original Cedar Avenue is still in existence, beginning at its intersection with Washington Avenue at the University of Minnesota and ending in Lakeville, with the only major change being the upgrade of Highway 77.
South of the Minnesota River, MN 77 is cosigned "Cedar Ave" at all interchanges.
