Talk:Minoru Genda
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] I read that Interview with Scot Hards
A previous version of this article stated that Japanese fighter ace Saburo Sakai harshly criticized Genda after the war. I checked that reference and found it wanting. The reference was to an informal interview with Saburo Sakai in 1998 by a Scot Hards, wherein Sakai reportedly referred to Genda as 'that idiot.'
Scot Hards specifically stated at the beginning of his Sakai article that "I will point out that I did not take notes nor use a tape recorder during our conversation, and these "quotes" are paraphrased by myself to the best of my memory. Please do not repeat them or attribute them to Sakai-san in any published forum. The conversation was entirely in Japanese, and in my translations, I've attempted to choose language that best represents the atmosphere of how Sakai-san himself was saying it." http://www.warbirdforum.com/sakai.htm
I therefore definitely question the inclusion of the statement that Sakai harshly criticized Genda. I have removed the article reference per Scot Hards' request-- this was clearly a direct attribution in a public forum. I am a historian and under no circumstances should this have been included in Minoru Genda's Wikipedia article as a fact. If there are other instances of Sakai (or anyone else of importance) impugning Genda then we can evaluate them for authenticity and inclusion in this article as examples of Japanese criticism of Genda.
Lastly, I intend to return and offer more foot-noted material as to Genda's unique contribution to the Pearl Harbor attack and Japanese Naval Air tactics in World War II. Markm62 08:57, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
