MUN Society Belgium
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
MUN Society Belgium is an organization, home to university students from all over Belgium with a passion for the United Nations, international politics in general and debating. The organization was founded by 8 friends who got to know each other through participating in similar projects during previous years (e.g. European Youth Parliament, previous MUNs, National Scholar Parliament, UNESCO congresses, European Education Council, National Education Council, Youth Council, moot court competitions,…). It was late 2005 when one of them invited the others to participate as one delegation in the Catalonia MUN in Barcelona, an attendance that became a big success. Everybody of the team was so delighted with their experience that they were convinced it should not just end up with that. So we came up with the idea to establish an organization in which our international ambitions could be institutionalized. Confirmed that such participation is of great value, we try to carry out our experiences through this body. By organizing debates and lectures we hope to attract more motivated students, who can form delegations for the upcoming Models.

[edit] Mission Statement
MUN Society Belgium is committed to embracing and spreading the spirit of the concept of Model United Nations. The organization aims to assemble interested and talented university students with different educational backgrounds from all over Belgium. We prepare them for taking part in a simulated UN conference by enhancing the students’ understanding of the institutional and political in-workings of the UN. Through such a Model of United Nations (MUN), the send students act as delegates of Member-State nations debating a plethora of issues presented in the form of UN resolutions. Such conferences take place on a global level amongst prestigious universities world-wide, and constitute forums which cultivate international awareness and understanding as well as provide ample opportunity for educational and cultural enrichment. It is important for delegates of MUN Society Belgium that they combine a severe knowledge of the discussed subjects with a wide variety of experiences in similar projects. During the preparations, we broaden our knowledge with the lectures and debates we organize. On these occasions we invite our university professors as well as prominent government officials, journalists and professionals from various businesses (oil-companies, law firms, consultancy firms, NGO’s,…) to show us their opinion on the discussed subject.
