[edit] Plot
Nammal is a campus story revolving around two close friends, Shyam (Siddharth) and Sivan (Jishnu). All the students at the campus think that they're rich kids whose parents are abroad.Though that's far from the truth, the friends never corrected their classmates. Snehalatha (Suhasini Mani Ratnam) takes charge as the principal of that college. Soon Aparna (Renuka Menon), who is also Snehalatha's close friend's daughter, joins the college. Shyam knew Aparna from their school days and the duo wasted no time in ragging her. Angered, Aparna complains to Snehalatha. The principal was forced to take action. To her surprise, Snehalatha discovers that Shyam and Sivan aren't the spoiled rich kids everyone thought they were. Rather they are hardworking orphans, living in the slums. They come to college during the day and work, driving autorickshaws and selling small snacks at train stations, during the night. Snehalatha is very sympathetic to the boys and on a visit to their slums, she meets their guardian, a priest (Balachandra Menon). The priest tells Snehalatha that one of them is her own son, whom her father gave away. The rest of the story revolves around the depth of the duo's friendship.
