Naseby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Naseby is a village in Northamptonshire, England, with a population of around 500. The nearest town to Naseby is Market Harborough, roughly 7 miles (11 km) to the northeast.
A famous battle of the English Civil War, the Battle of Naseby, took place a few miles from the village in 1645. The site of this battle, Naseby Field, lies about 1.5 miles north of the village. The village is the site of a small Battle of Naseby museum. At 600 feet this is almost the highest point in the county and both the River Nene and the River Avon rise within the village giving the name "the watershed of England" as the former drains into the Wash and the latter into the Bristol Channel. A British warship was named the Naseby in honor of the battle; it was later (after the change of government) renamed HMS Royal Charles.
