Neal Richard Winter is a convicted Australian paedophile. He has been charged with more than 400 offences of sexual abuse against children, in 1993, 2002, 2003 and 2005. Most of these charges have been withdrawn. He kept 13 diaries documenting his crimes.
He was convicted of molesting three male students while an instrumental music teacher in Sydney's Trinity Grammar School, New South Wales, starting in 1992, although none of the three met him through Trinity Grammar School. He was charged with 32 offences, including indecent assault, homosexual intercourse with a male aged between 10 and 18 years and attempted homosexual intercourse. He was found guilty by a jury of 27 of those offences. He targeted two 14 year old boys and a 12 year old boy.
One victim claims that he 'ingratiated' himself with a victim's family in order to obtain access to the child, and that he would use the same technique with most of his victims. He would play squash with a boy, then massage him on the couch, and then engage in masturbation.
Neal Winter also manipulated his victims by telling them that the abuse was "God's will," and telling them Bible stories to justify the abuse.
On 23 June 2006, in the District Court of NSW, Winter was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment with a non-parole period of twelve years. In handing down his sentence Judge Peter Berman described Winter's criminality as enormous. He stated that Winter manipulated not only the boys and their parents, but others in order to continue his illegal activities. His first possible parole release date is 27 April 2018.
