Newman College of Higher Education

Newman College of Higher Education is a primarily a teacher training college in Birmingham, England. Newman College of Higher Education is the UK’s top ranked College of Higher Education according to the Guardian Higher Education Guide 2006.
[edit] Founded
The college was founded in 1968 on a campus in the suburb of Bartley Green. It is a Roman Catholic institution, although it is open to students regardless of their religious beliefs, and is named in honour of the Catholic intellectual John Henry Newman, who had strong links with the city of Birmingham.
[edit] Degrees Courses
The college awards degrees from the University of Leicester. Although specialising in teacher training, offering both undergraduate teaching degrees and the Postgraduate Certificate in Education, the college also offers a number of degree courses that do not lead to Qualified Teacher Status and both taught and research postgraduate degrees. The college is currently attempting to become a University in its own right and in September 06 took on more first year students than ever before.
