Norwood is a city in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 21,675 at the 2000 census.

Norwood is located at (39.160060, -84.455074)GR1. The city is entirely surrounded by the city of Cincinnati.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.1 km² (3.1 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 21,675 people, 9,270 households, and 5,154 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,682.3/km² (6,956.5/mi²). There were 10,044 housing units at an average density of 1,243.0/km² (3,223.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.25% White, 2.35% African American,99% Native American, 0.77% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.88% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.85% of the population.
There were 9,270 households out of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.8% were married couples living together, 13.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 44.4% were non-families. 36.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the city the population was spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 11.9% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 94.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $32,223, and the median income for a family was $39,951. Males had a median income of $31,530 versus $25,852 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,108. About 8.6% of families and 12.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.3% of those under age 18 and 7.5% of those age 65 or over.

The Norwood City Government consists of the mayor, city council, treasurer, school board, police department, fire department and public works department. The current mayor of Norwood is Tom Williams. The Clerk of Courts is Robert Sorrell.

Norwood has a number of distinguished graduates including professional football player and Super Bowl Champion, Marc Edwards, rock legend Sean Boyle, pro wrestler Brian Pillman, photographer Michael Wilson, and Punk rock band the Dull Boys consisting of Norwood legends James Byrd (not the James Byrd of the dragging death in Texas)and Kevin Evans, Brazilian Jiu jitsu fighter Keith Hensley . Drake Plantarium, located in the high school, is named after astronomer and astrophysicist Frank Drake and is linked to NASA.Norwood High School are the 1936 baseball state champions.
Norwood is also the hometown of the actor George Chakiris (born September 1934). Chakiris' filmography covers over 50 roles from the 1940's through the 1990's with his debut at the age of 12. Chakiris played Bernardo in "West Side Story."

[edit] 2006 Supreme Court case
In 2006, Norwood came under fire for its use of eminent domain for a private development project. The case came before the Ohio Supreme Court in Norwood, Ohio v. Horney. The court ruled in favor of the home owners.
