Reworded this paragraph, removing most of it: Hardy was born Norvell Hardy in Harlem, Georgia and briefly attended Georgia Military College in Milledgeville. In his first film, Outwitting Dad (1914), Hardy chose to be billed as O. N. Hardy, taking his father's first name as his own. From that time, he referred to himself as "Oliver Norvell Hardy," and eventually became most commonly known as simply Oliver Hardy, despite the fact that he never legally added "Oliver" to his name.

Can anyone verify that "Lucky Dog" was Laurel & Hardy's first pairing? IMDB doesn't have a listing for that film, which, given what it led to, you'd think they would. Gershwinrb 21:36, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Larry Semon
The article claimed that Larry Semon was "another Charlie Chaplin imitator." Semon, while certainly not Chaplin's equal as either a filmmaker or performer, had his own style that was not remotely like Chaplin's Tramp. One only has to view the films.
Billy West, on the other hand, was a Chaplin imitator, copying both Chaplin's Tramp and Dandy characters. Hardy was basically cast in the Eric Campbell role.
