[edit] Business and Enterprise Specialism
In 2006 Onslow St Audrey’s gained specialist school status. Their chosen specialism is Business and Enterprise. The school will extend students’ understanding of the subject and develop strong business curriculum links, which will in turn contribute to whole school improvement. A computer building has been developed in conjunction with being awarded the status. It consists of 4 state-of-the-art computer rooms, one being a wireless laptop room. Along with a conference room these are all equipped with interactive whiteboards.
[edit] Sixth Form
The sixth form is currently made up of 54 students. Spread across two year groups, a friendly, communal atmosphere is present. The sixth form block is based away from the central school building. Broadband access is available, along with kitchen facilities, disabled access and toilets but no clock.
[edit] Special Measures
A school in special measures will have serious weaknesses, often providing its students with a poor standard of education. Onslow St Audrey's was in special measures from June 2001, however in May 2004 Ofsted inspectors decided to bring the school out of this status because they believed it had improved drastically. Teachers and students alike were elated with the acheievement and it has acted as a spring-board to continued success.
[edit] The Great Fire Of Onslow
During the Spring of 2004 the school suffered a fire, caused by a fault in the boiler system. Emergency services attended and all students and staff, after momentarily being entertained by men in uniform, were evacuated to nearby Bishop's Hatfield Girls School. Heating was lost throughout the school building and subsequently the school was closed for a number of days whilst repairs took place.
