Paintergate
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Paintergate was a political scandal in New Zealand, where it was revealed that Prime Minister Helen Clark had signed the back of a painting (to be auctioned for charity) which she did not paint.
Clark was not charged by Police. The painting was subsequently obtained and destroyed by her staff.
It was named after Watergate, maintaining a popular meme in New Zealand and world media to amend any politically scandalous event with the suffix "gate".
