Phoenix Championship Wrestling was a small wrestling promotion based in Toms River, New Jersey, run by twin brother of former WWE Superstar and current talent agent Mike Bucci ; "Big 80's" Donnie B.. It was in operation from 2001 until 2003, and was a gateway for many wrestlers at that time to go onto bigger things. At the time, two of the world's largest wrestling companies ECW and WCW had gone out of business, and the WWE wasn't able to hire such a large number of wrestlers. Many of the aforementioned wrestlers sought work among independent promotions, such as Phoenix Championship Wrestling.

In February, 2002 PCW launched a weekly television show called Fire-Bird TV. The show aired on a local cable channel in the surrounding areas of Toms River. It was hosted by Steven Michael Payton and "1wrestling.com's" Mike Johnson.

On August 31, 2002 PCW promoter Don Bucci hosted the PCW Haas Memorial Tag Team Tournament. This event was dedicated in memory of Russ Haas, who was a Jersey area local indy star and WWE developmental wrestler who was working for OVW when he died due to heart complications in December 2001. WWE along with many independent promotions throughout the northeast United States sent talent to this card. The winners were the promoter's twin brother, the returning Nova and the man in which the tournament was dedicated to his twin brother and tag team partner Charlie Haas.

The company went under in early 2003 after being left without standout stars Nova who signed with the WWE and The Wall who signed with WWA/TNA.
