Part of the Whittier Union High School District Pioneer High School which was founded in 1959 was named for the street, Pioneer Blvd., on which it is located. The mascot, Titans, was chosen because it was the time of the Titan missile. The school was populated by only three classes its first year so as not to disrupt the Seniors at the other schools in the district. The first graduating class was in 1961 and the first class to attend the school for a full four years was the class of 1963. The first principal was Jack Jines.
It's athletics are in the Del Rio League.
Mr. Javier Gonzales--a mathematics instructor - was voted best teacher in California in the late 90's.
