Portland Vintage Trolley
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Portland Vintage Trolley is a special heritage streetcar service in Portland, Oregon. Service is provided with replicas of Council Crest streetcars, which last served Portland in 1950. The trolleys have padded wicker seats with reversible backrests. The Vintage Trolley is run by Portland Vintage Trolley Inc., a non-profit corporation.
The Portland Vintage Trolley runs along two routes:
- Lloyd District-Downtown Portland: Operates on the MAX Light Rail line between the trolley-only Doubletree Hotel station near the Lloyd Center to the Galleria/Library MAX stations. This was the original Vintage Trolley route, but has been limited since Vintage Trolley schedules are dependent upon openings between MAX trains. Today, the trolleys only run on Sundays between March and December.
- Portland Streetcar Route: Vintage trolleys were used initially as spares along the Portland Streetcar's starting segment. The service became so popular that Vintage Trolley service was added to supplement regular service along the line on Saturdays and Sundays. Vintage Trolley service was suspended during the construction of the RiverPlace extension.
Rides on the Portland Vintage Trolley are narrated by a conductor, pointing out historic points of interest along the way. Rides are free (the route being completely within Fareless Square), but donations are accepted. Vintage Trolleys are also available to rent for parties or special occasions.
