Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales performs a similar function to that of the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, i.e. that of speaker. He or she is the person elected by the members of the Assembly to chair their meetings.
The first person to hold the position is Lord Elis-Thomas, appointed in 1999.
In both the Assembly and the Welsh media the Presiding Officer is commonly referred to as the Llywydd, which is basically the Welsh equivalent of 'Presiding Officer'.
