Col. David J. Wright is an American Environmentalist responsible for a number of environmental triumphs of the 20th Century between 1988 and 2001. Given the title of Colonel by Governor Paul Patton of Kentucky in 1996 for his environmental deeds nationally.
From 1988 until 1990 he began an organization that protected endangered species of turtles in the United States where he met Senator Al Gore over bog turtles (Clemmys muhlenbergi) and justified protection of endangered habitats in Tennessee. In 1990 he organized Earth Day events and several expositions in malls throughout the Mid-Atlantic US. From 1992-1999 he distributed 13 million trees throughout the United States for planting during Arbor Day, Earth Day, and in disaster recovery situations.
Currently Col. Wright serves as the Executive Director for the Pan-American Foundation and its Venezuelan counterpart Fundacion Panamericana in Caracas.
