Ryan Paul Jones (born 13 March 1981 in Newport) is a rugby union player who plays number 8 for the Ospreys and Wales.
He played junior football for Bristol City as a goalkeeper until the age of 14. He took up rugby union at age 16 to be with his friends.
In 2004 when the Celtic Warriors went bust he was offered a contract with the Ospreys. The Ospreys went on to win the Celtic League in 2004/5.
He made his international debut for Wales against South Africa in November 2004. He featured in Wales' 2005 Grand Slam-winning side.
Many supporters were surprised when he was not initially selected for the 44-man squad for the Lions tour of New Zealand. He was later called up to cover for the injured Simon Taylor. He played so well in a 30-19 win over Otago that he was called up for the squad for the first test. He came on as a replacement and went on to start in the final two tests. He was considered by many to be one of the stars of the tour.
