It originally opened in 1959 as the Saline High School. For the 2006-2007 school year, the Middle School students moved into the Maple Road building. This former Saline High School and former Saline Middle School on was renamed The Liberty School and now sits vacant, un-used for regularly scheduled educational purposes.
In the year before its closing, it had a staff of 60 with approximately 900 students.
The facility is leased to various groups, clubs and organizations periodically.
