Spoiler Warning: Plot or ending details
Philander first appeared in Tarzan and the Hidden World, where he eavesdrops Tarzan and the gang about dinosaurs. At the dinosaur world, Philander takes many pictures of the dinosaurs. At London, Philander introduces the audience to the pictures of dinosaurs, but the pictures are all of monkeys.
In Tarzan and the Silver Ape, when Philander hears about the silver ape that appears at night to cure injuries, he plans to take it to London, but he fails when Tarzan and Professor Porter save the silver ape.
In Tarzan and the Weakest Link, Philander is in London, attempting to make Professor Porter fail. He mistakenly saves his rival when he mistakes him for Tarzan. Porter and Philander then get into a bind, and Tarzan saves them both.
It should be noted that Philander was in the original Tarzan novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs and, in complete contrast with his animated counterpart, was Porter's friend and assistant.
