Sarmoung Brotherhood
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sarmoung Brotherhood is the Armenian word for Sarman, which means 'who preserved the doctrine of Zoroaster' or means 'Bee' in Persian. The Commagene King Antiochus Theos I Epiphanes seems to have been connected to it, if not its leader (see Gilbert's research). It was an esoteric group sought by Gurdjieff on his journeys through Western and Central Asia. His experiences on these journeys, and the somewhat mysterious relationship with the Sarmoung Brotherhood can be found in his autobiography Meetings with Remarkable Men. His attempt to establish a link between the Brotherhood, ancient Mesopotamia, and even "pre-sand Egypt" was an intriguing attempt at acquiring "secret esoteric knowledge" that has been passed down through the ages.
